Dental crowns in Wetherby

Dental crowns are carefully fitted sleeves that sit over an existing tooth to protect it from further damage, and to improve your overall smile.

    Benefits of having a crown

A permanent crown can last between five and 15 years. This depends on your habits, lifestyle and oral care routine.

    • The crown will look just like one of your normal teeth
    • You can treat your crown like a normal tooth.
    •  A crown can mitigate, prevent or delay the need for extraction and replacement.

If you think that you require crowns, or would like further information on the procedure, contact the team in Wetherby today.

Why you may need a crown?

A tooth crown may be required if you have a weak or damaged tooth. This ‘sleeve’ fits over the exposed part of the tooth, above the gumline to effectively keep together cracked teeth and prevent further damage. It also protects a worn down tooth from any further wear and tear. A crown may also be fitted where there has been a substantial amount of tooth decay and there is a large filling or a root canal treatment with not enough tooth left to support it. As crowns are shells, they are also used to fit over dental implants or to cover discoloured or misshapen teeth. You may need a crown if you are having a bridge fitted, as they create anchors to hold the bridge in place.

      Our CEREC™ machine

Many dentists offer crowns and veneers but few dentists can offer the same-day treatment that Ashby Dental & Implant Clinic is able to offer. This is because we have invested in the latest-generation CEREC™ machine – one of the most advanced dental machines available.

This state-of-the-art equipment enables us to take high-resolution 3D digital images of your teeth and design crowns and veneers to perfectly fit your existing teeth. Our clinicians use the CEREC™ to sculpt the restorations as you wait, so there is no need for taking impressions of your teeth or for multiple visits to the surgery. The crowns and veneers are fitted during your appointment, so you can walk out the same day with a completely rejuvenated and healthy smile.

Patients should be aware that this is usually an irreversible process because it’s necessary to remove a small amount of enamel from your teeth to accommodate the shell. Veneers are not appropriate for everyone and our clinicians are trained to discuss all your options and offer treatments that are appropriate for you.
